Coldwater High School 7th 213

In previous years when the calendar would flip to October, the Lady Cavaliers would be posed to make a run to the top of the leader board at the Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships. They would toe the line with their sites focused in the top three places. This year would start with the same goals, but end in coming up short by finishing the regular season 7th place in the league. The league was packed with competition to the point where one faulty step would lead to a drop in the standing.

The team today was led by the performance of Sara Honigford, who would drop a minute off her previous season’s best to finish at 21:25 and finishing with honorable mentioned All-MAC placing to cap off her senior season. She was followed by another member of the Blob, Lily Schoenherr, who also dropped a chunk of time and just missed break 22:00 for the first time this season. Next would be the “sleeved-one” Lindsey Pease, whose arm sleeves kept her warm enough to catch fire at the end of her race to finish third on the team. The next four runners would enter the track mere seconds from each other look to compete for the final positions on the Varsity team. Carlee Goodwin would be kicked down and passed by fellow Cavalier Allison Hamberg in the final 100 meters to finish 4th and 5th respectfully for the team. Following close behind would be Shelby Homan and Elise Schwieterman. Closing out the MAC Championship would be Beth Honigford who didn’t see her finest days in a MAC race, but battles a foot issue to complete the race.

Sara and Beth Honigford would finish their MAC careers with a lot of accolades. Numerous All-MAC honors from first team to honorable mentions litter their personal record books. I want to say how proud I am of these two young women not because they ran for their team, their school, or even for me over the last 5 plus year. These two will be moving into the next season of their lives with the intention of serving their country through military service. During this season, these two young ladies that we had affectionately called Ferd 1 and Ferd 2 not only trained with the cross country team, but also their military groups to prepare for that next step in life. I tip my hat to you, salute you, and thank you for all your future service. If you get the opportunity to see this two around, please congratulate them on their running careers and their future career paths.

Now the second season starts!!! We are on to district next Saturday in Columbus Grove. Our Varsity team of Carlee Goodwin, Beth Honigford, Sara Honigford, Lily Schoenherr, Lindsey Pease, Elise Schwieterman, and Allison Hamberg will attempt to qualify to the next level at Regionals. Wish them the best of luck. Go Lady Cavs!
