The number is 7!!!
For those who haven’t followed the Lady Cavalier XC team this you, this number doesn’t really mean a whole lot to you. It could be a Top 40 hit by Prince from the 90’s. It could be horror movie starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. It could represent the points scored after a touchdown and an extra point. To our team, it currently represents the number of days until we run at the Promise Land, Hebron Ohio. In seven days, the Lady Cavs will be running at the Division III State meet for the first time in four years, and it is because of the race they ran on Saturday in Tiffin.
The Lady Cavs battled a cold shoulder from Mother Nature and muddy, beaten up course that was riddled with puddles and mud holes. When they completed the 3.1 miles gauntlet of a brown slip n slide, the ladies would find themselves punching their figurative ticket to the Show with a fourth place finish. They would be led by Haley Alig, who ran out of her mind to a 20 second PR to finish 6th place overall. This would qualified her as an individual to the State Meet. Not to be out done, Beth Honigford would also run a season’s best of 20:30. The next Lady Cavs to cross the line where Sara Honigford, Brittany Walterbusch, Colby Homan, Leanne Klenke, and Paige Ayers. All runners had season PRs or were very close to season’s bests.
I loved the fight in these ladies and they will continue to fight next week in Hebron, Ohio. They will be racing at 1:30 PM next Saturday and you can following online or you can make the trek to join the Cavalier contingent. Come watch us “Punch someone in the face” with our racing. Congrats on another season off the bucket list.
