All journeys start somewhere. Frido started at the Shire. Jack and Elwood Blues started in the Penguin’s office. The Lady Cavs started in Ottawa Glandorf at Metro Park. Their quest is not one for money, power, or glory. Their quest is to have their figurative ticket punched so they may have the opportunity to race against the best Division III schools Ohio has to offer in Hebron. Today, we made that journey one step closer with the capturing of District Gold and by the way, it was awesome!!!!
The Ladies of Coldwater began the race playing catch-up after a slower start compared to Columbus Grove, but with every step that changed quickly. With determination, Haley Alig would move into 2nd place with Honigford 1 and Honigford 2 stalking their prey. Directly behind them was Brittany Walterbusch passing unwilling victims with her elongated stride. Finally, a pack of three Amiga consisting of Colby Homan, Lily Schoenherr, and Leanne Klenke worked together over the remaining 3 miles to put runners in their rear view mirrors (If you are not familiar with Cross Country, we don’t have literal rear view mirrors. It is a figure of speech meaning behind us).
In the end, the Cavalierettes would collectively score 49 points and beat the number #8 ranked team Columbus Grove by 6 points. This doesn’t take away the individual efforts of our top 5 runners who also qualified for the Regional meet by placing in the top 16 of the race and by the way, that was awesome!!!
