As we get to the end of September, the JH Lady Cavs traveled to Versailles where they raced at the Tour De Sewer XC Invite. I know what you are thinking when you hear the words “Tour De Sewer”. Is it named after a prominent person in the community? Does it recognize a famous coach who sits in the pantheon of cross country coaches? Nope to all those guesses. It is literally a cross country course that gives you a “Tour” of the water treatment plant. The smell is at times unbearable, but this year they provided the ultimate item that tipped the scales in their favor as an outstanding meet…Chic-fil-a sandwiches. Nice move Versailles.
The JH Lady would finish 6th place at the Tour De Sewer. Leading the pack was Kate Hemmelgarn with a time of 15:25. 30 seconds behind Kate would start a “blob” JH runner with Ella Kahlig at 15:55, Eve Lisi at 16:01, and Izzy Zahn at 16:18. The very challenging course not only was home to a very bad smell that was at times bad enough to make a maggot gag, but also hills that would show up on the times for the girls. After Izzy, Faith Pohlman would cross the line at 17:35 and rounding out the JH Cavs was Nora Wehrkamp 24:31.
The JH Lady Cavs will be back in action on Thursday at Montezuma at the Celina JH Invitation. Good luck Ladies.
