Girls Middle School Cross Country · Girls Middle School Cross Country finishes 1st place at Van Wert Invitational

  Place Points
Coldwater High School 1st 26

The air was heavy with heat, humidity, and anger as it tried to beat down the spirits of the 88 young ladies who toed the line at the Van Wert Invitation. Would anyone be able to beat back Mother Nature and run through the fiery furnace she created this morning? The answer can in the form of 13 Lady Cavaliers with a resounding “HECK YEAH”. They would cover the 2 mile course in an effort that would bring home a 1st place trophy (of course adorned with a gold-like runner with perfect running form), 7 runners in the top 20 who received medals or plaques, and all 13 runners bringing home at the very least a ribbon for finishing in the top 50. On the flight home, the team was stopped by Airport Security for repeatedly setting of the medal detectors. When asked about the inconvenience at the airport security checkpoint, Carlee Goodwin replied, “that the price you pay when you bring home the hardware”

The Lady Cavs would score 26 points and battle back 9 other teams in the sweltering heat to take first place. The top 7 finishers were:
Haley Alig 2nd 12:10
Ava Giere 4th 13:00
Paige Ayers 5th 13:14
Carlee Goodwin 9th 13:34
Laci Schritz 10th 13:36
Shelby Homan 13th 13:51
Linsdey Pease 14th 13:57

Other finishers were:
Lily Schoenherr 14:26
Brianna Keller 14:33
Heidi Bruns 14:45
Emma Frilling 14:47
Hannah Dillhoff 15:51
Riley Rismiller 16:15

As mentioned before, the conditions for racing were not ideal, but the Lady Cavs competed well, fast, and furious. When asked to comment about the weather conditions, Chuck Alig said, “he sweat in places, he didn’t know he had place”. I agree Mr. Alig.

The Ladies will be back in action on October 5th at the Lions Invitation at Coldwater. Come out and see what all the fuse is about.
