Both teams were strong on the mound on Tuesday, but Van Wert was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a low scoring game versus the Cavs. Grant Meyer started the game for Coldwater and recorded six outs.
One bright spot for the Cavaliers was a single by Payton Goodwin in the third inning.
Treece earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Van Wert. He went five innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and walking zero. Maples threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Maples recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Van Wert.
Will Broering took the loss for the Cavs. He lasted three and a third innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out one.
Meyer started the game for Coldwater. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out two and walking zero
Goodwin led the Cavaliers with two hits in two at bats.
Van Wert totaled seven hits in the game. Conrad and Temple all managed multiple hits for Van Wert. Van Wert didn’t commit a single error in the field. Reynolds had five chances in the field, the most on the team.
The Cavs drop to 20-5 on the season. Their game at Greenville for Wednesday has been cancelled and will return to action on Friday. Coldwater host the winner of Van Buren and Bluffton on Friday for a Sectional final game.
