Coldwater weathered a push by Russia in the sixth inning where the Cavs coughed up three runs, but Coldwater still won 6-3 on Tuesday. York and Puthoff all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Coldwater got things moving in the first inning, when Nathan Grunden singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
The Cavs scored three runs in the second inning.
Ross Weigel got the win for Coldwater. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out one and walking zero. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with Seth Miller, Sam Broering, Jacob Wenning, and Grunden all securing outs and ultimately the victory. Broering recorded the last four outs to earn the save for Coldwater.
Lavy took the loss for Russia. He allowed seven hits and four runs over two innings, walking one.
Wenning led the Cavs with two hits in three at bats.
Coldwater improves to 24-6 while Russia drops to 18-7. Both teams will continue their tournament runs on Thursday. Coldwater heads back to Elida to face Edison for a 2:00 start. Archbold and Columbus Academy will be the game to follow at Elida.
