Coldwater Junior Varsity nabbed the lead late in the game in a 9-8 victory over Genoa on Saturday. The game was tied at six with Coldwater batting in the bottom of the sixth when Keegan Bruggeman singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Cavaliers collected 12 hits and Genoa had eight.
After Genoa scored three runs in the top of the fourth, Coldwater answered with three of their own. Genoa scored when Magnone tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Genoa, and Brunkhorst tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. The Cavaliers then answered when Casey Goodwin singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run and Justin Kaup singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Bruggeman took the win for Coldwater Junior Varsity. The pitcher surrendered two runs on three hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking zero.
Brunkhorst took the loss for Genoa. Brunkhorst allowed five hits and five runs over one inning.
Hartman started the game for Genoa. The bulldog allowed seven hits and four runs over five innings, striking out four Marcel Blasingame started the game for the Cavs. The hurler surrendered six runs on five hits over four and a third innings, striking out six
Coldwater saw the ball well today, racking up 12 hits in the game. Kaup, Blasingame, Bruggeman, and Kayden Baumer each managed multiple hits for Coldwater. Baumer, Bruggeman, Blasingame, and Kaup each collected two hits to lead the Cavs.
Genoa collected eight hits on the day. Magnone and Bierbaum all managed multiple hits for Genoa. Magnone went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Genoa in hits.
